i'm thankful that today is a day to celebrate the life of a man who led a mass movement resisting the evil and injustice of the state. i'm thankful that in a country built on theft of the land and lives and autonomy and history of people of color that we have a day in our national calendar to celebrate this man and the things he helped us to achieve, even if there is so much that is still to be done. i'm thankful that even if there is so much that is still to be done and the day itself is tarnished by those who take his words out of context and use them as shields against righteous critique, as false flags to try to turn us around and push us back into the darkness of the past, i'm thankful that the day still has value as a symbol of the power of a movement to create change. i'm thankful for that, now more than ever. i'm thankful that today is a day to celebrate.
