If you are in NYC, or will be the weekend of August 12th and 13th, consider attending Black Women Radicals and The School for Black Feminist Politics' Summit recognizing the 50th anniversary of the National Black Feminist Organization's (NBFO) founding.
The Summit will take place at The People's Forum, so yes, it is in Midtown*. Tickets are allegedly going fast, but y'all know Eventbrite be lyin'. Still I think they really are because how often do we get to honor our activist-teacher-elders and plot good plots for today and tomorrow?! People are here for the lasting legends!
I'll be giving Saturday's keynote and joining a positively bangin' line-up of NBFO veterans, archivists/Black cultural memory workers, activists, artists, and scholars to share NBFO history, the group's impact, and the lessons we can learn from their pioneering efforts.
Here's the tentative schedule.
*I've sworn off going anywhere between 66th and 23rd Streets because Midtown smells like weed and sweat and there are too many people. However, HISTORY IS IMPORTANT...and also my massage therapist is on 34th Street and he is hawt has the healing touch of a well-trained medical professional. Follow my lead, have a CBD gummy, and support young people taking the torch and running with it. (For real, though, why do leftist organizations rent space in one of the most expensive, if well-served by transportation, spots in the whole of the isle of Manahatta?!)
