just the one for pre-election anxiety

I share poll results, election concerns, tech tips, and personal musings on a chaotic 2024.

Poll results!

I love gauging how you are through my completely unscientific polls. From last time when I wanted to know whose work place isn’t a total hellscape…we are mostly in denial.

A bar graph showing the results of a survey about people's attitudes towards work. The x-axis lists four options: "Work? What is this 'work' that you speak," "Mine! My workplace is an AI-generated one," "I work for myself...the nightmare is me...a," and "I'm retired and loving it." The y-axis represents the number of people who chose each option. The option "Work? What is this 'work' that you speak" is the most popular, followed by "Mine! My workplace is an AI-generated one." The options "I work for myself...the nightmare is me...a" and "I'm retired and loving it" have similar numbers of responses.
I feel empathize with all of these sentiments because I wrote them and because I’m retired in my head.

My conclusion…

If you’re sticking your head in a hole and hoping for the best in November…VALID.

Hello. Have we met?

Skip down there to the non-election-related safe zone (🦺😷🥽) if you just cannot with multiple wars, election fucknanigans, imperialist-driven (States and rogues being one-in-the-same, Big Tech) genocides (how is this plural in the 21st century?!), and trying to try.

✨Trying is my compulsion,

but good news for me trying.✨

I actually re-wrote this entire section because voting is a mess and there’s nothing democratic about the U.S. electoral scam.

Two women on a roof with one woman inviting another to climb into her fur coat with her for warmth. From the film Hustlers
…while I condense too many articles and podcasts into this conclusion about voting.

“If you don’t vote you can’t complain.”

Okay, not true practically but also: let’s talk about the many ways this country has come up with to disenfranchise millions of citizens through felony disenfranchisement laws, not to mention aspiring citizens.

imo, more than get out the vote or name-calling, we should be paying attention to anti-democratic forces mobilizing voter suppression by maligning election board workers and fiddling with the boards to support The Ego Monster’s needs for popularity regardless of the vote count.

…my head and soul are so weary…though I’ve given up on “justice” and am questioning what even is a “soul” but that is a different newsletter. This may be a cry for help…or for candy.😳

Just the one reconsideration: revisiting some thoughts about being an expat as a response to a terrible election outcome…my Japanese lessons are progressing nicely, arigatogozaimasu, and YouTube’s algorithm is all about feeding me half-truths about cheap, abandoned homes (akiya)in rural Japan.🏃🏾‍♀️‍➡️🧳✈️🌸

If you still believe in voting as something other than delusion, reformist claptrap after all we’ve seen time and again…

Older man in a chair saying sell it a. little bit
“The Ego Monster wants to make sure we never vote again…” is not selling it.

Here’s just one way to help encourage people to go to the polls and use all that stationery and the cool pens you’ve been stockpiling: write letters to swing states with VoteForward. I did it once. I don’t know if it helped at all.

Just the one for library-lovers: For The People’s leftist “newsletter connecting folks who are interested in defending, strengthening, and expanding public libraries.” Because, once again, libraries, like public schools were, are under attack and loving books alone won’t save one of the last public, free spaces in this country.

Just the one cliché that gives me pause every time I hear it: the phrase “good faith” argument. Usually, someone is using it to accuse someone else of not “arguing in good faith.” What is this “good” “faith” of which you speak? 🤔 Seems like too delicate a way of calling a liar a bloody liar and isn’t that why we’re in this mess in the first place: lies and multiple failures in standing up to them??

Just the one insistence that radio is still where it’s at! 🦻👉🏾 Worldwide radio via Radio Garden is helping mitigate my periodic digital, screw all these apps, too much screentime overwhelm.

Just the one reminder that bees really are the coolest. Take a cue from them: carry your drop of water and try to put out any of the fires you see around you…

Just the one about productivity as a never-ending scam (lol, I stay on brand):

Just the one 2024 highlight for me was chatting with Gossip and Beth Ditto, who was out here being fully herself long before any commodifications of body positivity.🥰

…because, tbh, we could call 2024 done-zo.

2024 has lasted for years.😑

And just one ask: as I consider a season two of Pop Records, if you listened to my podcast will you please do this tiny feedback survey?

A scene from the animated show "The Midnight Gospel" featuring a character with a fishbowl for a head asking another character, who is partially hidden under a blue blanket, if they can interview them for their "Spacecast."

You could also recommend it to Nick Quah for a listen and perhaps for his newsletter: nicholas.quah@vulture.com. pleasethxkbye!🙏🏾

What is your 2024 highlight? 🔦

There should be a ban on all end-of-year lists, recaps, and reviews.

I know: 2024’s NOT EVEN OVER JUST STAHP.

I close with just one message of love to you…

A quote by Nikita Gill that reads: "Everything is on fire, but everyone I love is doing beautiful things and trying to make life worth living, and I know I don't have to believe in everything, but I believe in that."
