Here's to less hype and more birds
Research
These days I’m reading about the definition of truth because I can’t articulate what bothers me about machine-generated fiction. It’s easy to see the harm of using LLM text or images as a firehose of misinformation, but it gets muddier when the product is considered fiction, and these images bother me even when it’s clearly labeled as generative art.
The good news is that the AI hype might be peaking. The investment math(or the power grid) doesn’t seem to hold up even in a finance-focused and not at all ethics-minded report by Goldman Sachs, which means we’re one step closer to genuine use cases and sane conversations.
Drawing
Voilà, the next scene of the pigeon comics.
I’m experimenting with leaving out some details to be kinder to my wrist. The number of windows don’t matter to the story, and I think leaving more white space to the viewer invites them in. This brings up some of my art school anxieties: I used to make super detailed drawings and fill in everything, so the image would look ready and safe(r) from criticism. It didn’t work. Oh well.
