Colors and lines, pt. 1
Colors and lines
Most of my drawings are black-and-white: it’s practical when I draw outside, and it’s more simple. I stop drawing when I add everything necessary. If I add colors later, the drawing tends to look overdone. I stop when the drawing looks empty-unfinished and I will add the color to fill out the missing information, or when it looks chaotic-unfinished and adding color helps guide the eye through the details.
In practice, I did both of course.
I don’t like it yet. I can use colors to paint or draw with lines, but I'm still figuring out the combination of the two. I liked this riso print from last year, but I haven't found a good way to recreate these textures at home.
I wonder if a tiny machine learning model could be useful here. Adding colors can be a distinct step during making illustrations and comics, sometimes done by another person, and it's quite repetitive and consistent, but I haven’t seen this model in the wild.
I found the ones that color in black-and-white photos, or help pick a color palette. (I don't know why they are called AI, these palette generators are way older than the AI hype.) If a model can color in any black-and-white photo, it could be trained to add color to my drawings with a large enough data set. Is anybody selling that model?
Hmm, never mind. I would rather have a tech solution for adulting, like invoices or getting doctor’s appointments, so I can have more time for coloring.
This joke came to me just because, here’s a quick sketch before I forget it.
That’s it for today. Until next time!
