Chubby pigeons and other things
Last summer, I started writing Morning Pages as described by Julia Cameron. I was heading towards burnout, so I looked for something to pull me back into curiosity and creativity. I can’t tell if it worked, but I enjoyed starting the day on the balcony with a fountain pen, so I kept showing up.
That’s how I got to know some super dramatic pigeons on the tree next to me. They are much more interesting than the recent naked displays of power in the AI discourse as Microsoft’s and OpenAI’s C-level people said the quiet parts out loud: ‘content that's already on the open web […] is fair use’ and ‘some creative jobs maybe will go away, but maybe they shouldn't have been there in the first place’.
It’s so boring and predictable. Let’s look at pigeons instead!
The pigeons moved from the margins of my notebook to some of the scripts during the graphic novel course I was attending, and by now they have provided enough entertainment for 20+ pages of storyboard, and today I have a first inked page to share!
I love these chubby birds.
Since I drew the characters in the storyboard so many times, here I have spent the most time on finding the right window shape and size to correctly indicate space without distracting from everything else. I also learned I need to triple the paper estimate, at least while I’m figuring out this style.
A dopo!
