this seems very impactful
I have never taken any actions to reduce animal suffering. I do not think very much about animal welfare, or pay a lot of attention to it.
The below stood out to me because it seems like a case where anyone (who is a US citizen) can prevent extremely large amounts of suffering with like 2 mins of action - I'm for there being less undue suffering in the world, so I'm sending this out to all of you :)
This is especially relevant if you are an AI safety organizer (as many of you are) - you are a person who takes agency to have impact. There is a section in the post above about what you can do.
The US is about to pass a law which will revoke many state-level animal farming standards.
The practical upshot of this is that millions of animals will be locked in very small cages and made to suffer.
Note that this is suffering above and beyond what is happening right now, and it probably does not need to happen.
The main ask in the above article is a 2-minute call to your senators - there is a call script in the linked post and this should take you literally 2 mins. You could do it right now.
If you are a US citizen, this seems like an opportunity to have a large amount of impact / do a lot of good in a small amount of time.
There are several other small actions described in the post above that take like 2 mins and prevent HUGE amounts of suffering in expectation. Seems like a good deal?
