April 2026 Updates

Hello! I am surviving–not going to lie, a little burned out! I’m also working on many reported pieces behind the scenes.

I’m also involved in three talks at the Association of Health Care Journalists’ conference at the end of May. And I received a covering workplace mental health fellowship from the National Press Foundation. Yay!

Here’s what I’ve had published this month:

April 1: Nurul Amin Shah Alam’s Death Was a Homicide

April 4: Hold off on Celebrating Trump’s Proposal to Increase Disability Education Funding

April 4: HHS Directly Gives Crisis Pregnancy Centers Millions of Dollars

April 10: Trump’s Math Behind Medicaid Fraud Claims Doesn’t Add Up — Literally

April 13: Graham Platner Claims He’s Changed. Why Is He Still Using the R-Word? (Republished by LGBTQ Nation)

April 16: Graham Platner Apologizes for Using the R-Word (Also republished by LGBTQ Nation)

April 20: What We Lost When We Lost Self Magazine (Republished by The Objective)

April 23: What RFK Jr. Doesn’t Get About Paid Family Care

April 27: FDA May Finally Make It Illegal to Shock Autistic Kids as Punishment

Correction, June 12: An earlier version of this article wrongly characterized that several students died while receiving shocks at the Judge Rotenberg Educational Center.

April 30: The New Frontiers of Aging (My first feature over 2k words since August!)
