Judoscale News: To Blue Ridge! ⛰️
Judoscale: One-Click Autoscaling for any hosting platform ✨
Howdy, Judoscalers! The days of warm weather, fresh flowers, and rising temps are finally here. And we’re heading to North Carolina to celebrate hang out! Here’s what’s been kicking around our minds this month:
- ⛰️ Catch us at Blue Ridge Ruby
- 📀 Judoscale on Render
- 🔢 Your PaaS Calculator
- 📝 Dear Heroku: Uhh... What’s Going On?
- ⏰ Judoscale Speaks Your Timezone
- 📈 Looooooong Running Jobs
Plenty of ground to cover here! Let’s dive in.
⛰️ Catch us at Blue Ridge Ruby
Judoscale is proud to be an Emerald Sponsor of Blue Ridge Ruby starting tomorrow! If you’re coming, please say hello! If you’re not coming, there’s still time to grab a ticket 😉. We last attended a few years ago and loved it, so we’re thrilled to be back and sponsoring this year! If you’re reading this email, we’d love to meet up and chat. We’ll see you there!
📀 Judoscale on Render
As many of you are keeping tabs on, we’re in the middle of our “Judoscale on Tour” series. Just after we penned our “Ode to Heroku” baseline and rubric we began moving to Render. And, as of last week, our production environment is indeed fully running on Render! Boy do we have thoughts. Many, many thoughts 😆 mostly good, but we’re excited to write up the next edition of Judoscale on Tour and give you our conclusions and insights. Keep an eye out!
🔢 Your PaaS Calculator
We built and setup the Judoscale PaaS Pricing Comparison Calculator a couple of years ago (what a mouth-full!), but recently realized it’d be helpful for teams thinking about migrating to a different hosting platform to have that calculator filled out magically. And I’ll be honest, this is actually really neat. Just click a single button and you’ll see a serious, real-world estimate of how much it would cost to run your same application on various other PaaS’s! No catch, no gimmick. Just open your app’s settings in Judoscale:
Then scroll down to the new card and click the button!
The perks of partnering with an autoscaler that works everywhere! ✨
📝 Dear Heroku: Uhh... What’s Going On?
Many of you have seen the odd messaging and unclear outlook from Heroku regarding their future developments over the last couple of month. Having at least a little bit of publishing traction going for us, we finally wanted to pen an open letter to Heroku, on behalf of this community and others, asking what’s up! It’s a quick read but hopefully represents a stance you too can support as we trudge forward into Heroku’s new waters. You can read it here:
⏰ Judoscale Speaks Your Timezone
We’re thrilled to have rolled out a long-requested feature into the Judoscale admin UI: timezone aware metrics, charts, and scheduling! Want to scale up your dynos at 8am Eastern time every day? Can’t figure out what happened at 4:32pm Pacific (why did those requests fail!)? We’re happy to report that you can now cross-reference and understand all of your data in zone-specific times. 🎉 And don’t worry, things automatically adjust for daylight savings 🌅. Read all of the details here:
📈 Busy Jobs Display
We shipped a neat little visual feature in the Judoscale dashboard app last month, particularly for users who utilize our long-running jobs tooling. As a reminder, that feature-set basically prevents Judoscale from downscaling your worker processes if they’re actively processing a job, which can be helpful for apps with jobs that run for a long time! For those teams, we now show that “busy” state directly in the Judoscale UI as a helpful awareness metric. So, when you have this checked:
You’ll now see a new line in our metrics charts showing you when, exactly, you had longer jobs running:
That’ll wrap it up for us this month, friends! Catch us down in Asheville for Blue Ridge Ruby and otherwise hope everyone enjoys Spring! See you next time 💚. Keep on Autoscalin’
