Inspired By #90
Welcome to issue #90 of Inspired By, a monthly(-ish) newsletter from your friendly neighbourhood designer JPKoudstaal. 😘
Here are some of the things I came across the last few weeks that inspired me:
🤩 Jose Manzo
Just spent an hour digging through the work of Jose. I love this style of design, can’t get enough of badges.
I mean, these National Parks badges are amazing!
He designed these for headwear company American Needle, that has all sorts of badges on their caps and shirts, including a National Parks collection.
Jose doesn’t have a portfolio website, so you should just follow him on Instagram.
😍 Hoodzpah Design Fonts
Jose is using fonts from Hoodzpah Design for some of his designs and it turns out if you have Adobe Creative Cloud you can download them on Adobe Fonts.
Look how nice Redondo Avenue is:
I needed to play around with these, so I combined Lone Pine, Venice Blvd and Redondo Avenue to create this mock pizza restaurant branding. Look how cute that R is in Pizzeria 🥰
👉🏻 Check out more Hoodzpah Fonts on their website.
📚 New Design Books
Two weeks ago on LinkedIn, I asked for recommendations for new design books to read, and I received a ton of great suggestions! Here are a few of the books that were recommended, you might like them too:
-
The Honest Guide to Creativity and Logo Design — James Martin
-
Culture sensitive design — Annemiek van Boeijen and Yvo Zijlstra
And if you have any other recommendations, just hit reply and let me know!
😬 Don’t worry, it’s not ALL design in this newsletter. Just one more...
🟠 Peters Design Co.
One of the books that was recommended (and I pre-ordered) was “Logos That Last” by Allan Peters. Logos, badges, Americana, I couldn't resist.
Allan shares a lot of work-in-progress on his Instagram, with a clear motivation to support it. Here’s his submission for a design competition to redesign the Minnesota State Flag:
And how about this huge neon sign of his personal branding?! 😮💨
👉🏻 Here is his portfolio, book and Instagram
☺️ That was it, now just an ambient hiking video.
🥾 Hiking the Laugavegur Trail
Harmen Hoek just released another beautiful video. This time he went to Iceland to hike the Laugavegur Trail.
He’s currently hiking Torres Del Paine in Chile and he recently went on the John Muir trail, so there are more amazing videos coming, can’t wait!
If you (like me) are interested in doing a hike like this, but don’t know how, he has a travel guide available for $15.
✌🏻 That’s it. Thanks for reading and until next time! 👋🏻
