Inspired By #77
Welcome to a new issue of Inspired By.
These past few weeks I’ve been watching four incredible tv-series about cops, basketball, business, and a murder trial. They have two things in common. One: they’re based on actual events and two: they’re all awesome and you should watch them too. Here they are:
👮🏻♂️ We Own This City
“Based on the book ‘We Own This City: A True Story of Crime, Cops and Corruption’ by Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton, this gritty drama chronicles the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department's Gun Trace Task Force.
It exposes the corruption and moral collapse that befalls an American city in which the policies of drug prohibition and mass arrest are championed at the expense of actual police work.”
Created and written by David Simon, creator of "The Wire," and George Pelecanos. Jon Bernthal gives an out-standing performance as Wayne Jenkins, the corrupt Baltimore police officer at the center of this series.
🏀 Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty
“A fast-break drama series that goes back in time to chronicle the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers, one of sports’ most revered and dominant dynasties.
Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers, the show takes a look at a team that defined its era, both on and off the court.”
From the incredible story and acting to the way it is editted and shot with grainy film, split screen effects and talking to the camera. Loved it!
The series is possibly a little exaggerated, so if you’re interesting in learning more about Magic, you should also watch this four-part documentary where Magic tells more about his life and legacy.
🦄 WeCrashed
“Inspired by actual events — and the love story at the center of it all. WeWork grew from a single coworking space into a global brand worth $47 billion in under a decade. Then, in less than a year, its valuation dropped $40 billion. Starring Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway.”
The series is inspired by actual events, so if you’re interesting in learning more about Wework, you should also watch this documentary about the rise and fall of WeWork and its hippie-messianic leader.
🪜 The Staircase
“Inspired by a true story about a crime novelist accused of killing his wife Kathleen after she is found dead at the bottom of a staircase in their home, and the 16-year judicial battle that followed.”
I couldn’t stop watching the brilliant performances by Colin Firth and Toni Collette. Then I learned there was a Netflix documentary about this case too, which made it even more intense. So yes, again a series that is inspired by actual events.
If you’re interesting in learning more about this I recommend you also watch the 13-part true-crime documentary about this high-profile murder trial.

🏎 The DeLorean is back — and electric!
I’m not really a car guy and don’t really get sports cars, but I do think it fun that DeLorean has been revived and is now building electric cars.
The company is led by Dutch CEO Joost de Vries and the new Alpha5 car is designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, who also designed the original ”Back to Future”-car.
Thanks for reading and until next time!
