Inspired By #101
👋🏻 Hi everyone! Here are some things that have inspired me over the past few weeks:
“Our pay has been lousy but we’ve had an amazing life”
Since 1987, Karin and Lennart did not miss one of their now over 100,000 observations—through the births of their four children, snowstorms or illness.
All this time they’ve also remained committed to what originally led them to the station by the lighthouse in Falsterbo, Sweden—their mutual love for birds.
A beautiful short film about this loving couple, living a simple and fulfilling life:
The Fight to Save Googie, the Style of Postwar Optimism
The car-centric architectural style, characterized by neon signs and dramatic rooflines, is now endangered. Its admirers mourn the loss of the ideals it represented.

Romain Laurent
Romain Laurent is a conceptual photographer and director based in Los Angeles. I love his images, especially his cinematic gif loops, beautiful and a bit creepy. In his words: “Oscillating between poetry and stupidity”.
Fonts from Pinterest Predicts 2025
First, you should checkout this Pinterest trend report and notice the type treatment of each chapter.
Then read this article by Jake Giltsoff in which he went “font sleuthing” and shares the fonts used from Adobe Fonts, or some similar recommendations.

Pinterest’s 2025 trend predictions make great use of a lot of fonts from Adobe Fonts. I did some sleuthing to work out which they are.

Ty from the internet
Ty Finck is a graphic & type designer in Ithaca, New York. And he’s also a musician, photographer and game maker. Talk about multi-talented!
I came across his lovely font foundry, Etcetera Type Company, and I liked his website and blog too, so be sure to check it out.

Pricing Design
Pricing projects can feel tricky, but it doesn’t have to be. Dan Mall has rewritten his book “Pricing Design” and made it available for free (!).
He explains how to earn more by understanding what your rate consists of, why hourly rates don’t work, what clients really want and what they are willing to pay for.
Honestly, every freelancer and studio owner should read this. And it’s presented on a beautiful website designed and built by Jonas Leupe – multidisciplinary designer from Belgium.
Go get (or read) the book here:

Hip Hop × Comics
Alejandro Torrecilla is an artist that blends Hip Hop with the American underground comics of Robert Crumb and the superheroes of the golden age of DC and Marvel.
And on the topic of hip hop, I recently came across “Worst Comes To Worst” by Dilated Peoples Feat. Guru. What a great track!
The lyrics inspired me to explore some digital art techniques, so I followed a nice spray paint tutorial from Texturelabs and here’s the result:
And if you (like me) hear something familiar the song, that’s because it samples William Bell’s “I Forgot to Be Your Lover”, a track also recently covered by The Black Keys. And the main lyric? That’s a sample from “Survival of the Fittest” by Mobb Deep. Love all these songs 🥰
That’s it, you made it!
