Joy Who Lived: Week Three!

Fun fact; so far our festival has paid out $16,000 to trans artists to create their work. As I explained at our cabaret this weekend - our kickstarter backers paid for venues, tech, and the logistics of this festival, so we could pay out an unprecedented 100% of ticket sales directly to the shows. (For reference, this cut is usually 50% or less, or comes only after a big venue rental fee.) we are so excited to be able to give a free space for creators to showcase their works and tell trans stories.
You may or may not know that the founders of this festival (hi, that’s us, Laser and Maddox) are theater artists ourselves! We’re very excited to be debuting our new work this weekend! We wrote a musical about a nonbinary love triangle, about what happens when your “straight” marriage isn’t straight, about accidentally falling in love with your college roommate … and about trying to play “chicken” with love…. How long can you go before you have to share your true feelings? LOVE CHICKEN is debuting 4/20 at 5:30pm at the Elysian. Join us, please! Our cast is talented and we are nervous. Use code TRANS for $5 off tickets!

This weekend also has a few more events, and there’s still time to stream lots of our shows online - many for like $2! And then we’ll of course see you all at trans Charlie Brown on 4/26-27 (tickets are selling out!!!)
This festival has been euphoric joy. Thank you so much to everyone who has created this community. You better believe we won’t be stopping after this month… so stay tuned to this newsletter for info not only about next year’s festival…but also some more community events in the meantime! What would you like to do? What would you like to learn? Who do you want to see again? (Genuinely… reply to this email and tell us!)
See you this weekend, and thank you so much!!
