Episode 25.1: a year and a half has elapsed
first message from josh via buttondown, links
Hi there - the last time I sent an email towards your inbox was a year and a half ago, and it was through a different email provider. I’m so curious to know if any/how many of these get into real people’s real inboxes.
If you get this, consider replying. recommend to me a book or a show. I’ve been watching Delicious in Dungeon recently and loving it.
So, notes about this… gestures at this email, the infrastructure sending it.
I’m using ‘buttondown.email’ now, and am getting off convert kit.
In a moment I’m going to send one last email to everyone subscribed via convertkit, giving an opt-in opportunity to anyone who doesn’t receive this email.
I pruned the list of subscribers, of course, as I brought it over. So, some of you may notice two emails from me, right about now. If you’re getting this one, you’re subscribed to the ‘current’ thing.
You may expect more frequent emails from me in the future.
This and all future emails are/will be all available via RSS, too. (rss feed link). the url is kinda gnarly, but one can indeed paste it into their favorite rss reader and it’ll subscribe you to gestures this.
I’ve not sent many emails to this list, and I’ve written rather more on my own website.
I sorta have always promised writings related to climbing, programming, and {a category of my choice but it’s either roads or robert moses, or both, obviously}.
The writing I’ve done over the last year and a half is partially in-line with this theme.
I’ll list some distinctives. I wrote 18 posts since my last email, I won’t list them all here, maybe I’ll introduce more of them on a subsequent email:
As usual, the programming-related stuff relates to geolocation data and rendering lines on a map. Here’s like 1400 of my trips (mostly by scooter/moped) displayed, all at once, on this trip displayer app I made in Ruby/Rails.
I added a feature ( the /trips_around endpoint. It looks for a latlng param like 39.729231, -104.974108) and if it finds it, it’ll shows exclusively the trips where I passed within 50 meters of that point. Here’s the URL in all it’s glory:
It might look something like:

I think it’s cool.
That’s it for now. I’ll be sending more than .66 emails per year.
Until next time,
-Josh
PS some of you might press the reply button. You won’t. tell me a movie or a show that you enjoyed lately. or a book you liked, or a game you played that was pretty good.
