the return of the immaculate mailing list

a welcome back issue, to get the ball rolling

Yo,

Here's a little list of notable things:

  • Chicago is being occupied by feds and the military, abducting and gassing people in the streets

  • Sona asks "Why?" roughly six thousand times a day

  • You can and should get a covid and a flu shot ASAP

  • I have recently started getting into photography, roughly 20 years after all my photo friends did

  • I've only read like 2 or 3 books this year but that is fine

  • META (facebook/instagram/whatsapp) continues to aid in genocide and obeys every whim of the Trump admin, erasing most (if not all) of the benefits of its platforms

  • I recently remembered radio garden is a thing and learned that tv garden is also a thing

Here are some albums i've listened to recently

  • babo moreno by babo moreno

  • history of silence by múm

  • estreito by valentim frateschi

  • throwing shapes by throwing shapes

  • vanguardia subterránea: live at the village vanguard by miguel zenón quartet

  • soft light by filip leyman

  • august by scree

  • wheels in an elsewhere by watchglass

  • gush by kaitlyn aurelia smith

  • the prophet and the madman by ami taf ra

  • lands end enternal by cole pulice

  • gritos by bleid

  • only dust remains by backxwash

  • corpus offal by corpus offal

Other notes

  • A ceasefire is not liberation. Israel has also never abided by a ceasefire agreement. Free Palestine. From the river, to the sea.

  • Carry a whistle with you. Blow it four times if you see ICE around. Don't stop blowing if they are abducting someone. Protect each other. Go to a Know Your Rights or an ICE Watch training (if you want help finding one, let me know).

  • Make a list of your skills and resources, and then think about how they might apply to the current moment (again, if you want help, let me know).

  • Wearing a mask is still a prudent and practical decision, and wearing one sometimes is better than never. Grocery stores, public transit, and medical facilities are top priorities. If you have covid, you're contagious for several days before you might feel any symptoms. The severity of your symptoms has little connection with your chances of Long Covid.

  • I love being a parent to Sona, and witnessing her linguistic and emotional development is so fascinating, and so often stops me in my tracks. General reminder that Kat and I have a Signal chat that is only pictures of the kiddo, and Kat and I are the only people who can post, so you aren't in a popping off group chat just to see the pics. Holler if you want to join!

  • One of my favorite bits of parenting Sona is doing her hair styles. It's a fun challenge to see how many hair ties I can get on her little head :)

Here are a few pictures I took recently

Kat, Sona, and Bonnie stand on the sidewalk, all looking back at the camera. A loud noise had just happened behind me.
a power trio
A monarch butterfly perches on a sharply focused sunflower. There are more out of focus flowers scattered amongst the background.
screensaver wannabe
A profile portrait of Sona at the park, wearing a red pajama top with gold stars and moons. She is in motion, with her arms stretched out to the sides.
pajamas at the park
A portrait of Kat- mostly dark, but with patches of sunlight coming in through the window illuminating her eye and shoulder.
loml
A portrait of Sona making the Blue Steel face from Zoolander while holding onto a tree branch. She is wearing a colorful striped shirt.
