Joseph Zitt's [as if in dreams] 2024-02-29
Hi. I'm Joseph Zitt. I moved from the US to Israel in 2017. This is my newsletter about more-or-less daily life in my city in the shadow of war. You can select these links to subscribe or unsubscribe. There are more links at the bottom. You can also read this email online here. Here we go...
Downstairs at the market today, red peppers are four shekels a kilo. Yesterday they were ten. They were five on Monday. They were ten, again, on Sunday. They're either throwing darts at a price list or pegging the price to some spectacularly unstable crypto.
At the Heart of the City, as I devour a quick sabich for supper, a young man rides a Segway in circles as he plays intricate percussion patterns on a plastic bowl. He isn't busking. He's just having fun.
A teenage boy dances into view, shadowboxing. He pulls his punches as the Segway gets close to him, then returns to swinging more widely once it has passed.
I get to the Cinematheque in plenty of time. The tall young man greets me in English. "Here for the double feature?" Yep. "Great. It's beautiful. Beautiful."
I go to my usual seat, on the aisle, in the second row from the top. The theater is filling quickly.
They show the usual "Bring Them Home Now!" short, a few trailers, and reminders to turn off our phones. We settle in.
Dune Parts One and Two await. It's going to be a long evening.

The newsletter’s official mailing address is 304 S. Jones Blvd #3567, Las Vegas NV 89107. (I’m in Israel, but if physical mail comes to me at that Las Vegas address, it’ll get scanned and emailed. I don’t expect that to happen much. If you want to send me physical mail, ask me for a real address.)
