Joseph Zitt's [as if in dreams] 2024-01-22
Hi. I'm Joseph Zitt. I moved from the US to Israel in 2017. This is my newsletter about more-or-less daily life in my city in the shadow of war. You can select these links to subscribe or unsubscribe. There are more links at the bottom. You can also read this email online here. Here we go...
My phone wakes me up at the usual time. I get up and cross the room to stop the alarm. I look at the window. It's still dark outside. It shouldn't be. I shrug and fall back asleep.
Half an hour later, the alarm goes off again, as scheduled. I look at the window. Still dark. I wonder if we've shifted time zones. It's the middle of January. We haven't.
I open the outside door. It is, indeed, morning. Light glistens off of plastic, rippling in the breeze. I look to my right and see the answer.
My laundry guy has delivered my dry-cleaned shirts. Each is on a separate hanger, wrapped in plastic. He has hung them on the decorative grid outside the window. The window itself is small enough that the shirts completely block the light.
I grumble, but I realize that complaints about how dry-cleaned shirts have been delivered are the epitome of "first world problems." And part of my mind echoes the obligatory, "plus, we're at war."
(Trying to write more in the evening, I fall asleep at my desk for several hours. So I guess this is one of those short posts I was talking about.)
Feel free to forward the newsletter to other people who might be interested.
Here’s an archive of past newsletters.
You can find me via email, Bluesky, Mastodon, Facebook, and, just out of inertia, X/Twitter. There's more about me and my books, music, and films at josephzitt.com.
The newsletter’s official mailing address is 304 S. Jones Blvd #3567, Las Vegas NV 89107. (I’m in Israel, but if physical mail comes to me at that Las Vegas address, it’ll get scanned and emailed. I don’t expect that to happen much. If you want to send me physical mail, ask me for a real address.)
