Some things I made in 2024

Looking back on 2024, the creative projects that I gravitated towards mostly involved making clothing. I feel like thrifting is not the same as it used to be (maybe 10 years ago?) new clothes are not made well anymore. So if I wanted something, I had to want it enough to spend time making it.

I also dusted off my parent’s old sewing machine this year. The last time I had sewn anything was in high school when we had a unit on fashion. I still don’t love doing it, it’s much fussier than knitting but I can make more things with it!

I found pictures of the dress I made in high school while cleaning out my Facebook lol

Here’s an (incomplete) list of things I made in 2024 with links:

  • The Collage top - this was my first top that I sewed and the fabric was a thrifted tablecloth.

Josephine is wearing a handmade 3/4 length sleeve top with balloon sleeves. The fabric is a plaid pattern with purple, green and yellow
  • Traveller’s Cardigan - this one was fun because I got to visit a button store in Montreal that I’ve been waiting for a reason to go to, Rix Rax. It’s been run by the same woman since 1987.

  • A skirt I self-drafted following Sydney Graham’s youtube tutorial.

  • Sea Salt tee, with a fun self-striping cotton yarn.

This year, I’m hoping to get back into painting with watercolours & acrylic. There’s also a knitting machine & 3D printer at the school I work at that I really want to do something with.

To finish, I saw this sticker in a shop recently and it’s where I’m at mentally these days:

How am I supposed to Live, Laugh, Love in these conditions

I hope you’re keeping as well as you’re able to!
