The Split Mechanical Corne Keyboard
I've been using a split mechanical corne keyboard for more than a year now and I can honestly say it's been an awesome hobby to venture into that has also benefitted me greatly as a developer.
Building and putting together a keyboard like this isn't super straightforward though and when I first started out, I really wished there was better information and options out there. Because of this, I've been wanting to make it easier for you guys to be able to build a keyboard like this too. The first thing I wanted to do was to put together a polished 3d printed case for the Corne to help protect it and make it look nice, the second was to put together a partially assembled kit that already had the diodes and LEDs installed onto the PCB to make things a bit easier, and third I wanted to make an in-depth guide on Youtube that would include everything you needed to know. For the case specifically, I also wanted to put together a good tenting solution as I hadn't tented my keyboard for the longest time and wanted to try this out for improved comfort.
After several months of designing, recording, and putting everything together, this week I opened up a new shop called SplitType in the US, where you can find the case and partially assembled kit (diodes and LEDs installed) and I've also published a new video on Youtube going over everything you should know if you want to build a Corne keyboard too! I'm actually typing out this email with the keyboard that I built in the video! I'm hoping to expand the shop to other countries in the future so more of you can have access to this too.
I'm planning on doing more keyboard-related content on the channel talking about things like QMK, using a keyboard like this with Neovim, other interesting keyboards, etc... and I also want to put together a new Neovim setup guide for 2024 soon!
All the best,
