Speed Round! One-Sentence Reviews of the NY Openings
I don’t know what it is about these super short reviews. Pithy or pithy’s opposite, they seem to bring style to the fore: the power of a formal constraint! This is the second edition that I’ve edited for the Critics’ Table, and I think it’s fantastic, if I do say so myself. Check out the contributions from the jaw-dropping group of TCT first-timers (Jack Bankowsky, Ben Davis, Amy Sillman, Harry Tafoya, Lynne Tillman, David Velasco, and Elvia Wilk!) and, of course, there are excellent sentences from the returning cast of characters…(I wrote about the aerial landscapes of Yvonne Jacquette at Karma in Chelsea and a group of paintings by Emma Beatrez at Hair + Nails on Henry Street.)
Here’s a gift link for you, but isn’t it time to subscribe?

Other news: After a great summer at TCT (did you read Julia Bryan-Wilson on Betty Parsons?) as chief art critic, I’ve brought on the brilliant Juliana Halpert to cover LA (who I wrote a little about in my “season preview” here).
I’ll be K8 Hardy’s post-screening interlocutor for the 10-year-anniversary screening of her 2016 cult film Outfitumentary on Sunday night.
My skeptical/appreciative profile (is it a profile?) of Maurizio Cattelan is in the new print issue of CULTURED and online here.
And did you know I have an essay in the catalogue for the big Krasner/Pollock show opening at the Met soon?
