Matthew Barney's Wild West, Dinner Parties, and More

Performance artist Matthew Barney is in a domed, wooden drill hall-turned-barn on a Colorado ranch, centered in the image with an open entrance at the back. He is wearing Western/ranching attire (jeans, boots, cowboy hat) and pushing an old fashioned line-marker machine (for sports playing fields), leaving a white line in his wake. There are bleachers on the right side of the space. Trees and a small group of performers are visible through the entrance at the back.

Here is the diary that I mentioned I might write about my trip to Aspen last week. In it: seated dinners, cocktail banter, public discussions, obscene wealth, a think tank, Issy Wood (of course), the dress rehearsal for Matthew Barney’s performance on a cattle ranch, and a thimbleful of tea.

We still haven’t worked out the gift link thing, but if this is a must-read for you (for example, if you have reason to believe you are mentioned in the text) and you are a non-subscriber, please reply to this email for temporary login credentials.

Warmest regards, as they say! JF
