Cameron Rowland

I’ve wanted to write about Rowland’s art since I first encountered it, ten years ago, but somehow it never worked out. Now, I’m kind of glad that I had to wait, and that I had this opportunity to speak with them and engage more deeply with the work.

Some related things on my desk.

I’m also grateful that I was able to reproduce a number of their images, with their accompanying, sometimes rather long, captions. Because of that, the piece is, in a sense, a hybrid text and an extension of our conversations, which I love.

The past couple of months, facing this next era of brutality, I was very lucky to have this meaningful work to help me focus my thoughts. I hope you’ll find it helpful too. And go see “Properties” if you can.

You can read the piece here.

If you don’t subscribe, I’ve included an unpaywalled link here. Please don’t share it too widely. And, if you enjoy the article, and can afford to subscribe, I hope that you will support our work at TCT. (TBH this is the kind of feature that I was afraid I would never be able to publish in a magazine, post-AF.)
