2025 in Review

A painting in hues of peach, brown, and buttercup showing Zohran Mamdani at age 14, his face in three-quarter view turning back to regard the viewer over his left shoulder. His hair is slightly unruly, his expression serious, there is a pale yellow glow to his left indicating a light source.

Not a top ten, best/worst, or in/out list exactly, here’s what I wrote about the year (in art, in New York), leading with who else but Zohran Mamdani. (Last week, I contributed a few book picks to the Critics’ Table art book roundup.)

Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter this year! I love your comments. And please forward it to people that you think would like to receive it. The only way I really have to let people know about it is Instagram, but I started this to become less reliant on that platform!

P.S. Still shopping? My one evergreen tip: This sturdy and timeless metal packing-tape dispenser is what everyone (across the gender spectrum and generational divide) wants and needs. Also available in orange, yellow, and white (this is the best-priced one I found that arrives in time for Christmas). Talk to you next year!
