Track-By-Track: O/B #24 (Guest post by Michaeloswell Graphicdesigner)
Today's guest post is the first ever audiovisual contribution to this series, brought to you by utopian graphic designer and art director, Michaeloswell Graphicdesigner.
You may know Michael's design work from Warp Records' 30th anniversary package, WXAXRXP Sessions, or Holly Herndon's 2019 album Proto, or the project 'Michaeloswell Graphicdesigner Invoixen 2014–2019: Collected Invoices, Published On The Occasion Of Real Time' (viewable here).
He's also a prolific musician, with hits like 'Wes Streeting Knowledge' (2012) and his long-running Michael Oswell Plays X vs Y series (most recently 'Michael Oswell Plays Carly Rae Jepsen Against The Dead Flag Blues', 2020).
Given his history with Warp Records and his love for all things Drexciya, it made sense to invite Michael to respond to Elecktroids' 'Silicon Valley' from their 1995 masterpiece, Elecktroworld. The late James Stinson's spaceway-gliding original has been reworked into a Lynchian suspense piece, weaving together organic and synthetic sounds with a leather suitcase-ful of drama. In Michael's words:
The mood board was ‘hypercard point-and-click adventure games’, ‘Peter Greenaway soundtracks’, ‘instrumental - acoustek’, and ‘postmodernism’
Enjoy this classically Oswellian treat and follow Michael's work on Twitter / Instagram / Soundcloud.

Note: this is an entry in the Track-By-Track series for my mix for O/B. Track-By-Track is a series that looks back at records you will have heard in my mixes, one by one in the order they were played. Who made them, and when? How did I come across them?
