The first thing to note about this one is that in the game of names, 'Pam Jackman' is as strong as they come. Sadly this is Pam's only record, but she sure makes the most of it, belting out the story of her insatiable lover over a b-boy beat with a badass stuttering kick.
As obsessed as Pam is with her man working her body, she does refer more than once to the need for boundaries: 'My man is working me too much/I like to talk, but he likes to touch', and later: 'Work my body/Work my body/Make sure you don't hurt my body'. I'm glad Pam is aware of her own needs, though she does tend to throw them out of the window the moment her man calls her up. Oh Pam, what are you like!
This tune was produced by the Mr Hyde half of Dr Jeckyll & Mr Hyde, who as far as I can tell were part of the early hip-hop/electro-funk scene, with their Tom Tom Club-sampling 'Genius Rap' in 1981. Once 'Work Your Body' comes round in 1986 (incidentally the year I was born), the vibe seems to be veering towards the house sounds coming out of Chicago at the time. I got this on my first visit to A-1 records in the East Village over 10 years ago and it still makes me smile today.

Note: this is an entry in the Track-By-Track series for my mix for O/B.
Track-By-Track is a series that looks back at records you will have heard in my mixes, one by one in the order they were played. Who made them, and when? How did I come across them? And what do they make me feel?
