Track-By-Track: BSU #10
From those short, sweet, unknowing weeks of clubbing at the start of 2020 there are a few moments that really stand out. Near the top of that list is seeing Ben UFO at Lux, just 10 days before the first lockdown began. It was a fabulous set, defined for me by two tracks, the first of which was this Herbert remix. It's sad to think this was the last time I genuinely lost my shit on a dancefloor, almost a year ago now.
Imagine that ludicrous lead line blaring out of the stacks in the Lux disco – it's essentially the 'waah-waah' sound effect for a pratfall in a sitcom and it absolutely slays. Meanwhile the beat bashes away happily, sounding more like DIY than music. I had no idea Herbert was still doing remixes, let alone ones as good as this.
The other highlight of the set was John Rocca's 'Mystic Voyage' under his Synchro-Bass alias, a track I'd heard for the first time the year before and never on a properly big system. What a treat. What a long time ago.

Note: this is an entry in the Track-By-Track series for my mix for Butter Side Up.
Track-By-Track is a series that looks back at records you will have heard in my mixes, one by one in the order they were played. Who made them, and when? How did I come across them? And what do they make me feel?
