Track-By-Track: BSU #05
[SkiSunday] I've been proper skiing just once, on a school trip when I was about 14, but Ski Sunday formed a big part of my childhood weekends. Recently Nick Craddock reminded me of its existence and, listening back to this 808 State tune, I couldn't help but associate it with both the spectacular BBC theme tune and the brilliantly funky music from 1080 Snowboarding on the N64. I'm talking Lillehammer. I'm talking the giant inflatable Milka cow. I'm talking KATJA SEIZINGER. [/SkiSunday]
[DJing] Both yesterday's tune and today's are examples of 3 minute bangers that represent a bit of a challenge to play out, not just for their brevity but for the lack of DJ-friendly intros/outros. Something I really try to work on is the phrase-based approach to the mix, which allows you to get away with essentially a 10-second crossfade between the break or outro of one thing and the intro of the next thing without people noticing too much. Keeps you on your toes I guess. [/DJing]

Note: this is an entry in the Track-By-Track series for my mix for Butter Side Up.
Track-By-Track is a series that looks back at records you will have heard in my mixes, one by one in the order they were played. Who made them, and when? How did I come across them? And what do they make me feel?
