JD Edits Vol. 1
I’ve just released JD Edits Vol. 1 through the Welt Discos bandcamp, raising money for Gladt, a BIPOC & queer-led organisation providing counselling and other services in Berlin.
Following the success of previous efforts (‘Legwork vs Is It Me Or Is It Her’ has raised over 300€ and ‘God’s Chariot (SH Remix)’ has raised over 2000€), now it’s time for this compilation of my own edits that I’ve made and played between 2018-2024.
Some of these have appeared in my online mixes, some I’ve played out at parties or festivals, and one of them (‘Ludwig’) is completely fresh. All of the originals are, in my opinion, bangers, just I knew they could do with a little trim — not least one with the Dutch rap in it. So I’ve applied my rudimentary skillz in chopping up the best parts of them to make these confections: three of them are spliced together from separate mixes of the same track, while the other two are just updates of a single original mix. I haven’t applied any fancy effects or beefed them up in any way, but I have inserted the odd cut-up drum fill here and there for effect. Soundhack walked so I could run.
A note on pricing. When I originally uploaded the Huerta mash-up as a fundraising release I set the track to ‘pay what you like’, which led to the majority of people purchasing it for 1€ or less. The number paying only 0.25€, despite it being for a good cause, has been very disappointing. Therefore, when I uploaded SH’s Oklou remix I made it 2€ minimum, and that has led to a significantly greater amount raised. (It doesn’t hurt that the track got played at Glastonbury etc.) For this release I considered making it 5€ for the set and no individual track purchases, but then I figured that might put some people off, like the scores of you I know must only be here for the ABBA medley. (I don’t blame you!) So I went with 5€ for the set, and 2€ for the individual tracks.
If you’re into it, or know someone who might be, please consider sharing the news!
And thanks again to Giang for knocking the artwork out of the park. Dinner’s on me.
