Flamingo #35 (03/11/21)
Flamingo is my monthly radio show on Lisbon’s Rádio Quântica, broadcasting every fourth Wednesday from 16h–18h GMT. You can find the mixcloud archive of previous shows here.
This month’s Flamingo features a number of compilations I’ve been listening to a lot around the house lately. ‘No Way’, the first ever vocal track from Ikonika, is taken from Digitalis, a streaming-only set from Adult Swim that I think I’ll review soon. The tracks from Kuscheln, Sasha Theft and Sean Brooder are all from a compilation on kaptcha, xenolith v1.0, which also features Peach and Octo Octa. Kaptcha - “a bunch of cybersluts kinky towards the inability to tell humans and computers apart” - is the new incarnation of kit ket, who I played for a few years ago in Lisbon (recording here).
Then there’s the production debut from Sofia El-Harifi aka Sofie K, whose hi NRG epic ‘Home is an Odyssey (via North Wembley)’ (brilliant name alert) appears on Pollination’s Open Culture: No Borders, out in full today. I also play a tune by Tamlin on the same comp, and a cut from last year’s collection on the label, Solidarity With Moria: All Refugees Welcome.
In the mix there are new EPs from Kyle Hall, Planar Traits and DIOGO, plus some of the second hand stuff I’ve been picking up here and there. I particularly like the Dave Wallace dnb record played on 33, and that WildPlanet EP that went down such a treat at Dimensions. I finish with Enrica Falqui’s Plexus EP on Marginal Returns, a record that subtly keeps giving long after you first put it on - thanks to Andrew for the record swap!
Final note: this month I’m also uploading the show to SC for the first time, since I know the mixcloud interface is shite. I’ve also made public some older Flamingo mixes that were previously only available to paying subscribers. Check the playlist near the top of my Soundcloud.
