I’m wrong about ...
Whoops, someone let me on a podcast
Buckle up, because I once again have some self-promo to do. A couple of big non-book things dropped this week.
First, I went on You’re Wrong About, one of my favorite podcasts (!), to talk about Renée Richards, the openly trans tennis player who fought for her right to play in the U.S. Open in the late 1970s. I was excited to dive into her life again after having written about her for Bookforum (which is back! yay!) last year. Find the audio on the podcast app of your choosing or right here:
Renée Richards with Julie Kliegman
This week, Sports Illustrated’s Julie Kliegman volleys with Sarah about trans athlete Renée Richards’s fight for her right to play in the U.S. Open. They also dig into how the dialogue surrounding trans athletes has and hasn’t changed in the 40-pl...
Then I was featured on an episode of Vice’s Queer Sports series alongside some very talented elite athletes. We talked all about mental health as it relates to both sports and—you guessed it—queerness.
I can’t share the above without sharing that Vice Media recently laid off more than 100 employees. So far, those workers aren’t getting the severance they’re owed, but you can support them by donating to a GoFundMe they started.
In other news
I wrote for The Washington Post late last month about recent nonfiction books that tackle asexuality and also bad consensual sex (also, the site’s paywall is down this week, so read all you like!)
You can preorder my book, Mind Game, basically wherever books are sold. If you want to support my local indie, that’s Astoria Bookshop. Hoping to show you look at the cover soon(ish)
I’m newly on Bluesky: @jmkliegman, per usual
Feet marbles: I’m still using them
Thanks as always for the support!
