Find me at No Borders

I’ll be signing books there March 30.

Hiya! Happy late March. For the New Yorkers among you: I’ll be speaking at No Borders in Astoria with my friend Michael Waters, who wrote the excellent The Other Olympians. Catch us there at 7 p.m. this coming Monday, March 30. It’s free to attend, but please RSVP if you can.

What is No Borders? I’m so glad you asked! It’s a collective aiming to open a worker-owned bookstore and café here in Astoria. For now, No Borders has a temporary spot on 34th Avenue, and it rules.

Hope to see you there!

Authors in conversation: Join us for a conversation about the long arc of gender panic and its impacts on athletes. Signed books available. Free, but RSVP encouraged! Monday, March 30 at 7 p.m. 36-12 34th Ave. Astoria, NY 11106. Julie Kliegman and Michael Waters

A preorder discount for Finding Renée Richards

I remain very excited to share my second book with you all. Finding Renée Richards is out August 18, which I feel like is somehow coming up freakishly soon. Jonesing for a discount on your copy? If you’re a Barnes & Noble member (or want to become one, I think for free), you can snag 25% off preorders for the next couple of days. Add my book to your cart and use the code PREORDER25.

Of course, you can also snag it from Astoria Bookshop (they ship, and this is perhaps your best bet if you want a signed copy!) or wherever else.

Other updates

  • Here I am in LitHub with a review of Hail Mary, a book about the history of women’s tackle football. Proud to be a part of this larger project.
  • Listen to me talk about Renée here, in this episode of a podcast about the rivalry between Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova.
  • I bravely survived snowboarding lessons for the second year in a row. I’m just as surprised as you are.
  • I adopted the following goober NINE YEARS ago this month. What.

A selfie of me with my head sideways and my gray and white tabby cat with her tongue out

  • Lately I’ve telling anyone who will listen that this is a very good and very underrated part of a cat, the lil eyebrows, as seen here:

I’m sure I’ll be back soon with more Finding Renée Richards updates — and more cat photos.
