About Substack
Merry Christmas All!
So.
There's been a bit of kerfuffle in my corner of the internet these past few weeks about substack due to them hosting and promoting nazi content. I don't want to get into the debate, but like a lot of big companies it's all about the dollar and less about the moderating and I don't want to use any platform that prioritizes money over all else. For example: Elon and Twitter
Besides, they take a 10% cut of my one subscriber's fee. If there was a reason to switch, that might be it. I doubt they will miss me.
Now What?
One of the things I didn't like was that I was writing in browser as opposed to writing in plain text. I love writing with just a text editor. No Word, Google Docs or whatever. Just text.
Besides, I didn't own my content with substack. Now, I do. I have every post, email etc written all in plain text. If I want to switch platforms it's easy peasy and now I have all this under one umbrella - my new vanity domain name: jims.one
It's one site for everything I write. Maybe I will write poetry (doubtful) or a technical bit there. Maybe I will share it with you guys or maybe I won't and now with this setup, I can pick and choose what the updates are. It's also faster to load than substack because there's not databases, etc... This isn't for everybody and substack is easier for the average Joe, but I am neither average or Joe.
And of course you can always bookmark and visit my site if you want to see all the things I've been up to.
Lastly, the email sending service I am using is buttondown.email and it's run by one guy and that's pretty cool. No investors to worry about. Currently I'm using the free service but if I explode in popularity it's like 9 bucks a month and they don't take a cut. And with all the money I save on electricity...
Anyway, Enough of That - Here's what we've been up to:
- I switched our elecricity plan. Exciting.
- I wished everybody Merry Christmas
- I wrote about going to the car wash
- and lastly the night before before Christmas was fun so I wrote a poem. 1
Until Next time: Kisses!

See you next year! Jim and Co.
