U.S. Strikes Iranian Radar and Drone Sites; Iran Retaliates, Kuwait Hit by Missiles and Drones

The United States military carried out strikes on Iranian radar and drone control sites on Saturday and Sunday near the city of Goruk and on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, saying the action was in response to Iran shooting down an American MQ-1 drone operating over international waters. U.S. Central Command said fighter aircraft eliminated Iranian air defenses, a ground control station and two one-way attack drones it described as posing clear threats to ships in regional waters, and reported no American personnel were harmed.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps acknowledged a retaliatory strike, saying its aerospace force targeted an air base it claimed the U.S. used to attack a telecommunications tower on Sirik Island in Hormozgan province. The IRGC warned that if U.S. attacks continued, its response would be "completely different" and that Washington would bear responsibility for the consequences. Iran's foreign ministry spokesman accused the U.S. of violating the ceasefire and said American negotiators were "constantly changing their views and putting forward new or contradictory demands."
Kuwait reported that its air defense systems intercepted incoming drone and missile fire early Monday morning, with state media saying air raid sirens sounded across the country. Kuwait's foreign ministry later issued a statement condemning what it called "heinous and repeated Iranian attacks" and described the strikes as a dangerous escalation. Kuwait is home to U.S. Army Central, the Army's Mideast forward command, and hosts U.S. military installations that have been targeted previously by Iran and its proxies.
The exchanges represent the latest breakdown in a nominal ceasefire agreed in early April, which has been repeatedly violated by both sides even as diplomatic talks on a broader settlement continue. Negotiations have stalled over disagreements on the future of Iran's nuclear and missile programs, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz — which Iran has effectively closed to shipping, cutting off roughly one-fifth of global oil supply — and the removal of highly enriched uranium. CBS News reported that President Trump had recently requested changes to a draft deal related to those issues.
Trump addressed the tensions in an early Monday post on Truth Social, urging critics to "sit back and relax" and saying Iran "really wants to make a deal." Iran's chief negotiator has said Tehran will not agree to any terms unless Iranian rights are fully secured, and the country's foreign ministry has accused the U.S. of stalling with excessive demands. The war, which the U.S. and Israel launched on Feb. 28, has killed thousands of people, mostly in Iran and Lebanon, and has claimed the lives of 13 U.S. service members, while driving global energy prices sharply higher.
