May Game of the Month
Really Loud Librarians
From the makers of Exploding Kittens
Is shouting a regular part of your game night? If you answered yes, this is the game for you! (If you said no...it should be!! You are clearly not having enough fun.) Really Loud Librarians is a best seller from the creative game makers that brought us Exploding Kittens. It combines the brain frustrating challenge of words that start with (blank) in a specific category with rapid fire, fast-paced answering while racing around a letter track.
Game Setup
Divide into 2 teams
Assign your librarians (Gertrude goes first)

Place board in the middle of the table with librarian placed in first loop so that L, S, K are showing in remaining loops of chain.
Place category cards near board after selecting which number will be used throughout the game.

Gameplay
Choose a random letter token and place on the board to indicate an extra point bonus. When a word starting with this letter is shouted while loop chain is on that letter, the team receives a bonus point.
Flip over the first category card and the 1 minute timer.
Yell out a word that uses a letter in the loop chain and fits the category.
The opposing team can, and should, argue it’s validity. When we played, it was a little loose with fitting the category on occasions…mostly if it was particularly funny to my teammates. Some very interesting “things you give for Valentine’s day” lists created.
You are not allowed to use the same word twice on ANY turn. So it doesn’t matter if bananas are yellow and also a fruit. No repeats!
When a valid word is shouted, the librarian moves forward to the letter used revealing 3 new letter options.
Continue to yell out words and move the librarian around the letter track until the timer runs out.
Use the lap marker to keep track how many times your librarian passes the starting letter position.

When the timer runs out, remove the librarian from the loop chain and put on the board by the last letter used.
Reset the loop chain to the letters used to start round to start the next librarian.
Now it’s the opposing team’s turn to be really loud and race around the letter track.
Once the 2nd librarian has done their best, the next round starts on the letter the prior round ended on.
Score points.
Scoring and winning
Whichever team successfully goes around the letter track the farthest during the round receives a point, plus any bonus points they earned.
The losing team receives zero points for the round (which is such a bummer).
If you tie, you also get zero points and you’ve spent 2 minutes just yelling, arguing, and laughing (sort of a win).
First team that shouts their way to 12 points wins the game!

Really Loud Librarians filled the room with laughter and creativity. My brain absolutely freezes when playing word games. No matter how articulate you think you are, you can stare into space trying to grasp for a word that is “something you grow in a garden” and fumes are steaming from your ears. Then when the timer stops, 10 words fall from your mouth and you feel like a complete idiot because tomato just wasn’t coming to you when the “t” was in loop chain. Even worse is when you feel like the opposing team got an easy category that you know all the words for (you don’t…it just seems that way when the timer isn’t running against you). This was an easy to learn game that can be played with 2+ players. Great add to any game collection!
