Idea No. F90,003: app for managing data about friends' babies
A MOBILE APPLICATION FOR MANAGING A MINIMAL (NON-CREEPY) LEVEL OF DATA ON FRIENDS’ PREGNANCIES AND RESULTING CHILDREN
This application will help you organize data on pregnancies with which you are not intimately involved but of which you would like to remain aware in a general sense. While the application will include optional alerts starting a few weeks before an anticipated due date, it will never attempt to inform you (via fruit analogy or otherwise) of the relative size of the fetus carried by your friend or acquaintance.
The application will also provide an easy-to-use dashboard for managing information about these new babies as well as existing children with features optimized to your level of involvement, from doting grandparent to coworkers who want to avoid future embarrassment by keeping loose tabs on number, gender, and approximate ages of children you may never even meet. After a baby is born, the application will enable additional features, such as birthday reminders.
Users will be given ability to assign babies and children to categories ranging from “high info” (e.g., “Super Auntie”), which will enable additional fields to note things like grade level and current clothing sizes (with a predictive feature that will automatically update to include reasonable guess of approximate size based on one entered 3 years ago), a setting to automatically download photos texted by the baby’s parents and organize them into an easily accessible “show off” folder shortcut, and more to a “low info” setting for kids for whom you mostly need simple reminders they exist when writing annual holiday cards.
It’s possible an app for this purpose already exists, but if so, it’s not yet popular enough that a reasonable keyword search can unearth it from among the myriad apps you can use to (1) track a pregnancy, (2) turn your phone into an actual baby monitor, or (3) literally track your kids through their own phones.
