Kenora, Dorion, Agawa Bay and Mattawa

After leaving Winnipeg, it was a bit of a quick trip back to Ottawa to be back for Thanksgiving weekend. We stopped for a few nights, back at the Anicinabe Campground in Kenora. Being so late in the season it was much quieter than during our previous stays there. It was also strange to see the campground without its main building. It was sad to read about a man setting fire to the building at the end of June. As always, in Kenora, there were plenty of deer wandering through the campground.

From Kenora, we drove to Dorion to spend one night at the Latibule Resort, which was also winding down for the season.

While we had hopes of seeing the Northern Lights, they did not appear for us, but we did enjoy a fire in their excellent looking fire pit.

We did one night in the Agawa Bay area of the Lake Superior Provincial Park. That is such a beautiful park, and we were able to stop in at the Visitor’s Center where we saw another Velocipede and a great sculpture of an otter.

While we were only there for one night, we made the most of enjoying the beautiful beach and a sunset over Lake Superior.

From there we spent one night back at the Lazy Rock RV Park and Campground on the last day that they were open for the season.

Our site was a Stress Free Zone

On the morning of Thanksgiving Sunday we hit the road to head to Ottawa, but first we stopped at Myrt’s in Mattawa for some breakfast.

We also popped into Wright’s Bakery across the street where she had stacks of all things pumpkin ready to sell for Thanksgiving dinners.

It was a quick return to Ottawa from Winnipeg. It was lovely to see family for Thanksgiving, and at the same time, it was hard to believe that we had been gone since mid-May.

One of the things we did this year, was each morning we were leaving for a new place to stay, we would select a “Launch Song” that somehow related to the place we were going. In the next post, I will share the list of those songs, and why we had selected each of them.
