Back to Winnipeg!
It was a short drive from Kenora to Winnipeg, the shortest drive so far this trip, just two and a half hours. Arriving in the Town and Country Campground just south of the city, we found out that there had been a lot of rain and our booked site was underwater so we were moved to a different site.

Getting there on a Saturday, our plan was to go into Winnipeg to wander and around and go out for dinner. We headed to The Forks, which was an area we enjoyed walking around last time we were there. We arrived on June 1st, and June being Pride Month, there was a celebration happening in the park, so there were many people wandering around, live music and vendors. Near The Forks is the Manitoba Theatre for Young People where we saw the unmistakable work of a former architecture professor of mine, Mark West.

From there we headed towards our dinner reservation at Sous Sol, which we had visited last year. Just like last year, we visited Wild Planet Music and I bought an Alabama Shakes album. Dinner at Sous Sol did not disappoint, and the truffle potatoes were as delicious as I remembered.

On Sunday we met up with some people that we played disc golf with last year. We played a couple of rounds at a course an hour and half south of Winnipeg in Pembina Valley at Stanley Park (not the one in Vancouver). It had been a while, so it was fun to play. When we got back to the trailer, I felt a tick crawling from my hair onto my neck. After a close inspection we found a few, and then realized we needed to pay more attention after playing disc golf, which inevitably involves crawling under trees or through grass when discs don’t go where they are supposed to.
We went to the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada which was quite fun to visit. They had a Froebe Helicopter, which was the first to be built and flown in Canada and was constructed from spare parts and equipment from automobiles, and farm machinery.

They also had a model of the Avrocar, which was a part of a secret U.S. military project, and was supposed to have flown like a high-performance helicopter.

We went for a walk along the Bois-des-esprit walking trail, which was a short trail, but filled with lovely sculptures carved into the trees. This one was my favourite.

It was a lovely, albeit wet, visit to Winnipeg, with our next long stop being Saskatoon.
