UGANDA GORILLA TREKKING

Uganda gorilla trekking is one of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife experiences—taking you deep into misty rainforests to meet mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Led by skilled trackers, each trek starts at first light with an intense search through dense foliage, guided by small signs like calls, movement, and feeding traces. Then, when you finally reach the gorillas’ trail, you’ll observe them just metres away—watching them feed, rest, play, and interact as a family group. Beyond the unforgettable adventure, your trek also directly supports conservation efforts that help protect gorillas for future generations.

Primary Gorilla Trekking Locations

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site)

Bwindi holds around half of the world’s mountain gorilla population, and trekking is organized across four main sectors:

  • Buhoma: Northern sector—considered the pioneer area for gorilla tourism in Uganda.

  • Ruhija: Eastern high-elevation sector—popular with birdwatchers.

  • Rushaga: Southern sector—with the highest number of habituated gorilla groups.

  • Nkuringo: Southwestern sector—known for dramatic ridge views and more challenging terrain.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (Virunga Mountain Range)

Located in the far southwest, Mgahinga is part of the Virunga landscape and features open volcanic scenery. It’s home to the Nyakagezi gorilla family and also allows visitors to combine gorilla trekking with golden monkey tracking.
