This budget-friendly 6-day Uganda expedition brings together the prime wildlife destinations of Southwestern Uganda, delivering close gorilla encounters, chimpanzee tracking, and classic savannah game drives without unnecessary expense.

Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Depart Kampala or Entebbe early in the morning for Southwestern Uganda. Pause at the Equator landmark in Kayabwe for a photo stop and water demonstration, then continue through the rolling terraced hills of Kigezi. Arrive at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park by late afternoon to check into your budget lodge and rest before your gorilla trek.

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Experience

Gather at the park headquarters for a safety briefing before ranger guides lead you into the ancient rainforest. Track habituated mountain gorillas through dense vines and mist, spending a full hour observing their daily interactions and family dynamics. Later in the afternoon, join the indigenous Batwa community to learn about their forest traditions, traditional survival skills, and cultural songs.

Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park with Evening Boat Cruise

Travel north towards Queen Elizabeth National Park, passing through the southern Ishasha sector where tree-climbing lions frequently rest in large fig trees. Arrive in time for lunch, then board an afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel to view massive pods of hippos, Nile crocodiles, and drinking elephant herds along the shore.

Day 4: Morning Game Drive and Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

Set off at sunrise across the Kasenyi plains to search for lions, leopards, hyenas, giant forest hogs, and grazing Uganda kobs. Following the game drive, travel toward Fort Portal alongside the Rwenzori mountain range and sprawling tea plantations, arriving at the perimeter of Kibale Forest National Park before dusk.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Swamp Walk

Report to the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre for a morning briefing before entering Kibale's canopy. Follow ranger guides to locate habituated chimpanzee communities, observing their vocal communication and social behaviour up close for an hour. After lunch, take a guided eco-walk through Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a haven for the Great Blue Turaco and eight additional primate species.

Day 6: Departure

After a relaxed morning breakfast, start the journey back to Kampala or Entebbe International Airport. Enjoy an en-route lunch and brief artisan craft stops along the way, bringing your budget Uganda wildlife journey to a close.
