Crowdfunding TWO NEW SERIES at Once

Subscribe now

So, I had an idea…well, I had several ideas and I was trying to figure out how to make them all get started. That’s one of the hardest parts of making comics - everything takes time, money, and support. So how could I start a few of the projects I’ve been dying to get out at the same time?

I had an invitation from the good people at Zoop to do a crowdfunding campaign there and we had started talking about funding my book with my friend Alex Smith “SLAY!”. Then when we were talking about the most cost effective printing, it was suggested that we do an oversized special edition book. With special features, it would end up being more than twice the length of the issue.

Then, I remembered the Marvel annuals I loved as a kid. They would package two annuals together, formatted as a flip book, with one title facing one way and another flipped over and facing the other direction. I loved those books. If I did something like that rather than just inflating the size of one book, I could launch two stories at once! And I already had another first issue of a comic ready to go!

Luc Nakashoji and Jamie Noguchi’s cover for The Girlfriend Survives

The Girlfriend Survives

Luc Nakashoji and I had started working on a book about the most dangerous role a person can play in a superhero book - the hero’s girlfriend.

When a hero has an archenemy who wants to hurt him, he always goes for the heart - hurt the family, hurt the friends, KILL THE GIRLFRIEND.

Delilah Dillon may not know that her boyfriend is a superhero or that she is in danger - but she’s also not your average barista and she’s not going to go down easy.

Written by me, drawn by Luc Nakashoji, and colored by Jamie Noguchi - this is the first chapter of a twist filled mini-series about surviving the world of superheroes and trying to stay out of the refrigerator.

SLAY!

Leilah wants to be a monster hunter just like her mother, but Queen’s Riders who used to be the greatest hunters in the kingdom have all but disappeared. The only one still said to be roaming the countryside is the Scarred Rider, who roams the kingdom taking bounties on monsters. Leilah wants to find her, but she also needs to live, so she decides to pose as the Scarred Rider herself and take a bounty on a monster. But when she finds herself in over her head, will it be the monster or the woman she’s impersonating she needs to worry about most?
