Eat This Podcast: When in Rome
Hello
Rome was founded on the promise of a food-based prophesy, and over the past couple of millennia has seen a lot of change in what passes for Roman cuisine. Karima Moyer-Nocchi's new book looks at The Eternal Table in the Eternal City and how it has always prompted anguish from traditionalists and excitement from the adventurous. We talked about a whole range of things, from puls to pasta Alfredo and its somewhat surprising history.
See those two sets of golden cutlery, which are still in use to make the authentic, original fettucine Alfredo? The inscriptions are slightly different. One is original. One is not. Or maybe neither is the original. Food history; it's complicated.
All the best
Jeremy
p.s. If you have an Alfredo story, or one about some other aspect of eternal food, I'd love to hear it.
