We were ever so slightly physical things

Recent pages from the sketchbook

Here’s a selection of some recent pages taken from my sketchbook. Some familiar techniques and materials l, and some new ones.

Also, a couple of program notes. First, I’ve migrated the newsletter to a new service called Buttondown. Substack is just… too much – it used to be a simple tool for writers. (There’s nothing for you to do if you were already subscribed previously.) Second, in making the transition, I’ve retired the “The Ministry of Imagination” title. That framing feels like a relic from another era. Time to move along. As always, thanks for reading.

The collage poem reads:

Are we in such a crisis now?

We were never tested
We knew a couple of people
We have lived in places

We work on our projects
We use them to coordinate
methods that we were not permitted to discuss

on the phone We talk mainly about facts, and
our recordings a spirit
we’re playing Jenga. we get caught in webs

We are constantly misunderstanding one another, often literally
We don’t mind fire we’re another casualty

we debated ideas. Why do we care about what we care about?
we’re all following
We were ever so slightly physical things
