Rehearsal of a backwards song
Signe Boe
2020 (rt: 5 min. 41 sec.)
Community singing is known to deliver community, but is it just as socially edifying when conducted backwards?
This is put to the test in the video Rehearsal of a backwards song by Signe Boe.
We are taken in to the setting of Sofie Amalie Andersen, Signe Boe and Daura Polonskytė rehearsing a backwards arrangement for three voices of the Danish hymn‘Se nu stiger solen’ (transl. 'See the golden sun from the ocean rise’). We enter directly into their process of rehearsing and are for one thing witnessing the three partly succeeding.
About the artist
Works by Signe Boe (b. 1988, Djursland) are appreciated for their acumen, absurdity and underlying humour. They are often presented in the media of extended cinema, and in her sculptural exhibitions she combine past and tradition-heavy techniques such as gravure-printing with present technologies, frequently intertwined by an experimental textual layer. Her works allow the rational and concrete to encounter the absurd and poetic.
Rehearsal of a backwards song is produced during a residency at Nida Art Colony 2020
supported by Statens Kunstfond
