live laugh email #6 - the innovative "it's been awhile" edition

welcome to my monthly newsletter that i haven't sent in four (4) months, where i share what’s new with me (a bit), what’s coming up (a lot), and some cool links (just the right amount). there are 185 of us here, one for each right triangle within the first four turns of the spiral of theadorus!

💰💰💰 this issue of live laugh email is sponsored by bugs rock, with scented and unscented wax sculptures handmade by me 2 feet away from where i’m typing this right now. you, too, can enjoy an alleged high ratio of delight per dollar by shopping at bugs rock dot online today! 💰💰💰

these past few months were certainly a test of my personal and professional strengths. while inconvenient and difficult, many of our challenges are not entirely hopeless. when it feels as such, discover where you can be helpful in the moment and ask for help from the community when you need it. sing it, sheryl.

what’s “new” (since april lol) “🆕”

  • so, yeah, glitch shut down. it was inconvenient, heartbreaking, etc. but in following my own advice above, i helped out in the form of streaming my project migration, spreading the news, finding alternatives for the community, and them simply moving on. i learned more about the ecosystem, got better at streaming and grew my community a bit more.

  • when am i finally going to launch that candle store? well, i did actually. i officially became a professional candle-maker by soft-launching my store and selling enough candles to make up a third of my total investment (admin and materials) so far which is actually quite affirming and fun.

  • have you checked your library lately to see what fun, free resources and activities they have available? i signed up for a 5-week bookbinding workshop at the jersey city free and public library’s creative arts center. i added a box to start showing off those projects on my website over the weekend for html day.

coming up 🔜

  • jerseyscript is back on 8/12 at pet shop. the prior venue shut down suddenly. pet shop boasts an all vegetarian and vegan menu of very good pub food.

    • additionally, if you’re local: la festa italiana is back august 13-17, one of my favorite times of the summer because i love fresh funnel cake, cover bands, and watching people realize there’s nowhere to park.

  • brooklyn web workers is a new meetup organized by former/fellow brooklyn js organizer, justin falcone, with its inaugural gathering on august 25th. i’ll be giving a lightning talk about my candle-making journey!

  • there’s robot karaoke happening all over the place the next couple of months! you can find me co-hosting at the nyc shows at boshi’s place and wonderville in september. this afternoon i have time blocked out to find my masters thesis so we can add it as a text source.

  • i’ve been streaming a couple times a week on youtube, a lot of it code that relates to my current work - like making this map of where people have ordered candles from me. like and subscribe!!

if you have cool events happening in the nyc/jersey area related to creative technology and art, let me know!

it looks a lot better than this now

more cool links 🔗

  • there are 2 days left to apply for courses in sfpc’s fall semester. it’s a great scene with great instructors so i’m always shouting them out.

  • nora is an online pal who i’ve gotten jewelry and just bought a lil glass guy from in the middle of typing this. they build cool bots (the original fun ones, not ai) and does fundraising for palestinians in gaza as well as the trans community. buy some beautiful glass from them today.

  • voting is open for the tiny awards, which means i’ll be spending the weekend in a brutal, yet joyful, rabbit hole of small personal sites.

  • i think i shared this on my blog but not a newsletter: potch and tru were on a game show. i repeat, POTCH AND TRU WERE ON A GAME SHOW. watch it!

thanks for receiving my email 📧

while i haven’t kept up with this newsletter, i have been posting my weekly retros every single week! yesterday i published #26. maybe if candles don’t work out, i can try out this whole pro-blogging thing [long fart noise that goes on for way too long and fades out into whistle].
