March Radness: nephew sleepover, GPs, friends, flowers and new podcast!

Hi friends,

Greetings from rainy Portland. We have had some nice sunny days this spring, but we are definitely having April shower season now. Here are some fun photos. (You might have to click “load images” or something like that to see them.)

In my front yard, the tulips and daffodils (generously planted by Best Neighbor Ever™ Jen) have bloomed and look wonderful. April flowers like April showers too.

I launched a new podcast: Voyager Revisited. If you are a Star Trek fan, please check it out. I have been a huge fan of Voyager and its fantastic Captain Kathryn Janeway for years now, and I am psyched to devote a podcast to appreciating this sometimes under-appreciated series.

The guinea pigs got a new toy: the cardboard box from a 12-pack of seltzer cans. I put some cucumber and parsley in the middle to coax them to overcome their usual Fear Of New Thing In The Cage. 😱

I had a nephew sleepover with Jon, age 5 1/2. We used the new compact air fryer to make a five-course vegetable dinner, including crunchy red pepper slices. Jon picked the menu and the order of courses (asparagus, potatoes, red pepper, broccoli, mushrooms).

Dear friend Rosie is moving to Hawai’i, so sister Peggy and I joined our other long-time dear friend Julie at a fun sendoff. Maybe I will finally make it to Hawai’i now!

Thanks for staying in touch. Let me know what’s new with you: pets, recipes, kid stuff, travel. Speaking of travel, sister Judy and I will be in Sonoma next week, and then we head out for a week in St. Pete and Miami for family visits. Photos to come.

xoxo, Jean

PS. Regarding March Madness and NCAA basketball, Carolina was knocked out 😢 but so was Duke 🤣. It was nice to see two teams, UVA and Texas Tech, play in the final game for their first time.

I do remember Carolina knocking out Virginia in the Final Four on March 28, 1981. There was pandemonium on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, as UVA had beat us twice in the regular season. Good for them finally making it to the championship game 38 years later!
