words words words (r/l/D #16)
just a few announcements this month. I have a brand-new release on Splitting Sounds Records called Smallest Traces. This is the first in a series of albums that explores multi-track remixes of 1-3 repetitive tracks to produce a trance-inducing experience. It’s a free download, as are all offerings from the amazing SSR

The esteemed and acclaimed American author William Stratton recently wrote some words about our release Settled in the Head (see link below).
“Somewhere in the endless, rhythmic drone of gong and drum, in the chaotic static-induced fizzling noise of metal on plastic on wood, or the clinking, popping haze of human machinery turned to song, I found a sort of strange simulacrum of guided meditation. Something akin to a story being shouted across a vast and empty canyon, shaking loose a few boulders along the way, but somehow still finding a nerve—not always a pleasant one, but always a vibrant one—to tickle, pinch, or soothe. I won’t attempt to construct meaning from the songs, but there is something circular about them, something that seeks to find its way back to itself or perhaps to give itself a name or maybe chew on its own tail, and along the way the opportunity to find something else, something new, occasionally arises. I suppose it to be my own bias that finds me seeking a pattern, yearning for grounding—and these songs surprisingly offer some of each—but not enough to allow me to settle into anything comfortable. But I also suppose that to be part of the point. Good art, at least sometimes, ought to prevent us from being too comfortable. I was at times overwhelmed, agitated, or dissatisfied. And I’m not displeased by those emotional responses, as at other times I felt ingrained in something larger than myself, something with a backbone, and that, I think, is something valuable.”
we would like to thank Bill for taking the time to deeply listen to the release, and are humbled by the way he tackled the not-easy task of describing the effect of the music/sound
