Issue 43: Proof of Life and Happy Solstice!

Jessi Eoin's logo repeated in rainbow colors showing a speech bubble with a pen, a paintbrush, and cane in it next to the words, "Jessi Eoin. Comics. Illustration." in a handwritten font.

Hello hello, friends and good folk, and happy Solstice!

I’m loving the coziness of twinkling lights and flickering candles, and I’m also look forward to the return of the sun for all of us after this longest night of the year 🌟

It has been too long since my last newsletter! Apologies for the sudden disappearance— the busy-ness of the holiday season combined with some shitty thyroid levels and other health issues had me wiped out. But I’ve got some new meds, got some break time happening now, and I’ll be back in your inboxes in 2026!

I just wanted to say thank you so much to each and every one of you for being here— it’s still such a delight to know that we’re here connecting over art, disability, and other cool stuff 💖 I look forward to bring you more art and stories in the new year!

Speaking of art, I’ve got some new work coming out in February as part of the Cartoonist Cooperative’s Anti-Censorship Comix Jam that I’m excited to share with you later. It was outside of my comfort zone and explores some upsetting themes, so it’s not something I recommend everyone read, but it was a good project to make! I was really proud of myself for making something like it, and I liked how it loosened me up.

I just started a winter-y illustration, too, that I’m eager to play with some gouache on later. I’ve been wanting to make some quilt-y themed works for a while now, and I decided, “If not in winter, when??”

A work in progress sketched in pink pencil. The scene shows a quilt border around a fat, queer couple cuddling in bed on a snowy winter's night with three cats curled up asleep on top of the comforter. One person wears a CPAP mask.

This is loosely inspired by the fact that we keep our window cracked a bit at night for the deliciously cold air to come in— these NYC radiators are notoriously hot, so having that window open just a bit helps keep things much more comfortable and cozy. (My poor partner, though lol 😅)

I’m excited to bring my love of quilting into my love of art, and I can’t wait to share this with y’all when it’s done!

Also made this playful graphic for the Co-op’s third anniversary coming up in February:

A purple graphic announcing an invitation to the Cartoonist Cooperative's Anniversary Celebration with the Cooperative's mascots Inkling (an inkwell) and Nibford (a dip pen) playing with glowing, colorful stars against an abstract cloudy background. The text reads, "You're invited to the Co-op's Anniversary Celebration! Join us February 25th to celebrate three years of the Co-op!" A list underneath this text reads, "Make and share comics about what the Co-op means to you. Draw your original characters together. Anti-Censorship Comix Jam Launch Party."

We’re planning some fun stuff that I’m excited for— and I’m especially excited because Events Committee now has two Chairs! My friend Bri Crozier (whose work is excellent btw, go check him out) is joining me, and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

But first— a break 💖 I’m gonna take some time to rest, recover, and prepare for the new year. I very much enjoy these days of nesting in anticipation of the coming year; it has a sense of anticipation that I love to simmer in. Gonna treat myself like a good stew and let things marinate before taking a big bite out of 2026!

I hope you all have a lovely holiday season if you celebrate, and I wish you a very happy new year! 💖

A photo of Jessi (a fat, white person with brown wavy hair and a gap-toothed grin) smiling at the camera. Behind them, a small pine tree is decorated with bright, twinkling lights in hues of pink and purple, and there's a wreath handing on their front door. The mood is very festive and cheery!
Proof of life lol

Hope the rest of this year is kind to you 💖 Thanks for reading!

A graphic shows an illustrated self-portrait of Jessi Eoin with a rainbow and colorful stars next to text. They are a fat, white person with wavy brown hair and blue eyes, furiously scribbling on their tablet. The background is an abstract pink and yellow. Next to their profile image is text that reads, "Jessi Eoin (they/them). Jessi is an illustrator who loves making, reading, and talking about comics, and they have come to accept that this is probably how they would be lured by a kidnapper." Their website is jbeoin.com, and their email address is hellojbeoin@gmail.com. They can be found under the handle @jbeoin on BlueSky.
