Happy December!

Jessi Eoin's logo repeated in rainbow colors showing a speech bubble with a pen, a paintbrush, and cane in it next to the words, "Jessi Eoin. Comics. Illustration." in a handwritten font.

Happy December, friends!

Wherever you are in the world, I hope you are safe and cozy and comfortable, and I hope this month brings you some happy moments.

I feel like November absolutely flew by-- it was a strenuous month! It felt like it had about 8 weeks crammed into it instead of 4 lol

2023 Comics Collection

I'm starting a new, hopefully annual tradition! I've put together a collection of all my comics and most of my illustrations from November 2022 to October 2023 into one big PDF! I think this is a fun way to offer my older pieces as my work evolves and my portfolio changes to reflect that progress, and I also personally love comics anthologies and collections.

It's called the 2023 Comics Collection! It includes over 80 pages of 15 comics and 15 illustrations, some of which have never been shared anywhere else before and that may not be shared publicly, and it's available for just $10.

Cover for Jessi's 2023 Comics Collection. The cover is hot pink with a turquoise rectangle in the center. There are sample segments of comics within the collection: the (tiny) friend, Day Off, and Starved. The cover indicates that the collection includes comics and illustrations from November 2022 to October 2023.

If you've appreciated my work this year, it would mean a lot to me for you to purchase a copy!

If you prefer to support me on a monthly basis, you can join me on Patreon as a subscriber for $5 a month. I share extra behind the scenes stuff there that gets shared nowhere else, including early looks at works, WIPs, looks at my work processes, and more!

Other Goodies

If you're still looking for a special gift for yourself or a loved one for the upcoming holidays, I also have some original paintings, stickers, and copies of my Disabled Witches art book available in the shop! I also am available for commissions and editorial services!

E-SIMs for Gaza

If you haven't heard, the Cartoonist Cooperative is doing a campaign called e-SIMs for Gaza, and I'm part of it!

Co-op members are offering free art in return for donations of e-SIMs through the Connecting Gaza campaign to Palestinians. The Connecting Gaza campaign supplies e-SIMs to people on the ground in Gaza, allowing them to circumvent internet disruption/blackout during the siege and continue connecting with the wider internet.

If you're able to, please consider supporting this cause! And as always, from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!

Illustration of Cartoonist Cooperative's mascots, Inkling (an ink bottle) and Nibford (a dip pen), as drawn by Juan Gee against a blue background. Inkling holds up a SIM card decorated in the style of the Palestinian flag with a determined face as they yell with Nibford, “E-SIMS FOR GAZA!” Text above reads, “Donate e-SIMs and get art from us!”

Publishing Updates

Well, I didn't get accepted into ShortBox Comics Fair or for Silver Sprocket's mini comics open submissions (🥲), but that's not gonna stop me!! I'm gonna keep working hard and keep applying to places! I'm proud of myself for trying, and I've found myself in good company through the Cartoonist Cooperative. It's encouraging to know that there are a lot of great ideas, artists, and stories that also don't get accepted-- it doesn't mean our work is bad, just not what got picked up this time.

Knowing how difficult it can be to get published in the industry, it also really makes me happy when I can support artists directly, too-- I'm grateful to have been able to buy work from so many amazing artists this year, and I hope to do so even more in 2024!

Life Updates

Unfortunately, shortly after I sent out last month's newsletter, we learned that my partner's entire department is indeed getting laid off soon. Sigh. We're doing our best to prepare for it, and we're also working toward moving to another state, too. We had already planned to move next year in fall or maybe summer once we had the funds, but now that may be as early as January.

Needless to say, it's a bit hectic here lately!

I'll be doing my best to balance everything between working, volunteering, helping my partner look for a new job, and preparing for a maybe move in the next few weeks to months. It's been stressful, and I'm not sure what the future looks like yet, but I'm hopeful this will bring good changes to our lives.

In light of these events, I would like to ask for your support! Words of encouragement, sharing my work or newsletter with others you think might like it, or even just leaving a like or comment on my social media posts always lift my spirits, and I would appreciate any extra bit of spirit lifting you're able to send my way these next few months! (I'm totally picturing the spirit bomb from Dragon Ball rn lol) 💖

Comics Read in November

November was so swamped for me that I really only read one webcomic on my phone the entire time lol. I read a Tapas series called Little Rabbit and the Big Bad Leopard, and it's a fun, "push media" (thanks, Accented Cinema, for introducing me to that helpful term!) type comic full of tropes and humor and slow burn romance (there's some problematic aspects to it, too, in case you're thinking of reading, so be prepared).

I did also read a few micro comics online, too:

  • The war in Sudan, a venting comic

  • AI Comic

  • this cute queer comic

  • teaching horror comics classes is fun

  • while you're sleeping

  • A Comic about Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and typos

  • secrets I keep at the side of my neck

  • seven years :>

  • Journal comics - I've been so tired lately

  • different preferences

  • The Anti-Parking Lot Committee (this one was shared on twitter, but it's now back on Gumroad-- it's well worth a read if you're able to buy a digital copy here!)

I hope December will be filled with more comics!!

Recent Favorites

Here are a few of my favorite things lately!

  • wearing cozy sweaters!

  • resting, preferably with a hot cup of tea like Total Calm or White Peach

  • decluttering my home in preparation for moving and for New Year's (TrashNothing is a fantastic help with this!)

  • setting up pages in my 2024 bullet journal/planner and setting up a comics reading journal

  • this pollo a la brasa recipe (I usually double this marinade and use just a bit more chicken, but not quite double)

  • Holiday Mood by Dreamy (I don't celebrate Christmas, but this lofi is so lovely)

See You Next Time!

That's all for today! I hope you have a cozy December, and I hope you get to spend time with loved ones and also find some time for yourself during this busy season 💖
