Dad Things - Issue #48
Hey friends,
Here’s to the first real issue of 2023. To be honest, I really wanted to keep posting issues during the holidays, but I got lazy and I thought I was writing to no one. But I got a piece of feedback from a friend and hung out with another and realized that I’m not the only one who struggles with this whole “male married to a wife with kids in the middle of their career” stage of life.
I initially started writing this to share links and articles that I would find interesting and at least one of those would be related to parenting, marriage, productivity, or getting ahead professionally or financially. So I plan to keep doing that for 2023. Please pass this on to anyone who might enjoy another thing in their inbox.
Must Read
While you can’t control your age, you can slow the decline of aging with smart choices along the way. From the foods you eat and how you exercise to your friendships and retirement goals — it all has an effect on how fast or slow your body ages.
While I’ve always tried to take care of myself physically, I’ve really paid more attention to it in the past few years. I’m turning 43 this year and I’m determined to feel like I can still do things I did in my twenties and thirties for as long as I can.
I can’t beat Father Time but I’ll put up a fight for as long as I can.

👾 Gaming Historian YouTube Channel
I recently discovered the Gaming Historian YouTube channel. I can’t emphasize how awesome this channel is. He produces high quality, well researched documentaries on 1980s and 1990s era video games and consoles. This is right up my alley. For example, in his Super Mario World episode, I learned that to get a feel for the new Super Famicom hardware, Nintendo developers actually ported over Super Mario Brothers 3 from the NES to the Super Famicom. And he actually shows video of the gameplay! To see Super Mario 3 in SNES quality graphics blew me away. I’ve embedded two of my favorite videos below.

Such a fun and clever way to show off a new feature.
Tweets
I have a lot less tweets to post here since I have mostly moved on from Twitter. I’ll save that for another issue, but I’ll figure out something else to post down here.
