The worst piece of technology ever 🤬

The worst piece of technology ever?

My brain. I forget. I delay. I evade. I refuse. Most days I simply can't remember. Anything. At. All.

Organizing and organizational systems fascinate me. I've tried many and left even more behind.

I require trust in my own system. Adopting someone else's system just because it's a shiny new chicken has failed for me every time I've tried it.

I'm therefore a little surprised at how much value I've found the emerging field of Personal Knowledge Management.

If you're at all familiar with the term "Building a Second Brain," you'll know what I'm talking about.

If not, check out Tiago Forte's series on "Building A Second Brain."

Maggie Appleton has created a fantastic series of illustrated notes that offer a deep level of detail.

The premises behind Personal Knowledge Management and "Building a Second Brain"?

We're inundated with information -- photos, music, blog articles, news articles, videos, and so on. This reality leads to the second premise of PKM. The brain is terrible at remembering things.

Hence the need for a second brain, our own personal library created using a naming and filing system that makes sense to us.

You can imagine my curiosity about building a second brain, considering how much I dislike my first one. Forte's PARA concept make sense to me, at least now anyway, and the flexibility of his system offers me enough autonomy that I can stick with it, building the trust necessary to keep moving stuff I want to remember out of Brain No. 1 into Brain No. 2.

Your mileage may vary, of course. 🤷

Until next time,

Jay
